I offer individual therapy for adults and young people (aged 17+) experiencing a range of emotional difficulties, based in Melbourne, Australia and online via Telehealth. I adopt an integrative approach predominantly informed by relational and emotion-focussed frameworks, particularly Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP).
ISTDP is an evidence-based experiential therapy that understands emotional suffering as arising from the use of defensive mechanisms that create barriers to authentically connecting with ourselves and our core emotions. By bringing awareness to these underlying emotional processes, defensive patterns can be let go of, to direct focus on building an individual's capacity to tolerate their emotional experiences and use them as a compass for navigating life.
The main modalities I draw upon include:
Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP)
Psychodynamic Psychotherapy
Attachment Based Therapy
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Referral and Fees
Standard individual therapy sessions are 50 minutes in duration. While you do not need a GP referral to engage in sessions, a Mental Health Care Plan (MHCP) may help with the associated fees.
Medicare MHCPs can be arranged through your GP, offering a rebate of $145.25 per session, which equals an out-of-pocket fee of $114 per session. Medicare allows for up to 10 rebated sessions per calendar year. A reduced fee can be offered for financial hardship. Alternatively, you may be able to claim for sessions via private health insurance if included in your cover.
